9 things to check before you buy a sunbed course

A sunbed course is paid for up front, and at Tantastic it can't be refunded once it's bought, so settle a few things before you hand over the money. These nine checks work for a course, package or deal at any salon. Each one comes with our own answer, which gives you something to compare.

How we chose these checks

Each check changes what you pay, how long you have to use it, or what happens if you change your mind. They run in buying order, from whether you can buy at all to what happens afterwards, and nothing here is scored or ranked. The Tantastic answers come from our price list, last checked on 2 November 2026.

Single session, course or offer

Prices are for the shortest session and smallest course on each list. The minutes are what the prices buy, so don't read them as suggested session lengths.

The nine checks

1. 1. Are you 18 or over?

   Start here, because nothing else matters until this one is settled.

   At Tantastic: Sunbeds are for over-18s only. Under the Sunbeds (Regulation) Act 2010, under-18s can't use a sunbed in a salon. Our age rules guide explains the law.

2. 2. Do you need a course at all?

   A course is one way to pay, and nobody has to buy one. If you only want the one visit, or you're not sure yet, say so at the desk.

   At Tantastic: single sessions start at £5 for 6 minutes on a standard bed and £7 on a premium bed, with no course to buy.

3. 3. Which beds does it cover?

   A course price can belong to certain beds only, so ask which ones before you look at the number. Don't assume a balance moves from one kind of bed to another.

   At Tantastic: standard prices apply to the megaSun 8000 α Hybrid, and premium prices to the KBL P9S hybridSun and megaSun K9S. Our sunbeds page shows the three side by side. Premium is a price list, so it says nothing about safety.

4. 4. What is the total, and how many minutes does it buy?

   Two numbers make any deal comparable: what you pay in total and the minutes you get for it. Salons split their minutes differently, so a headline price tells you very little on its own.

   At Tantastic: standard courses are 40 minutes £26, 65 minutes £36, 100 minutes £52. Premium courses are 40 minutes £36, 65 minutes £57, 100 minutes £84. Our per-minute guide does the sums, though a lower rate is no reason to buy a bigger course than you want.

5. 5. Is it set minutes or "unlimited"?

   If a deal is called unlimited, ask what that word covers: which beds, for how long, and on what terms. Having more minutes to hand is never a reason to use a sunbed more.

   At Tantastic: our price list has no unlimited course. Every course is a set number of minutes.

6. 6. When do the minutes run out?

   Ask when the clock starts, and keep your receipt so the purchase date is easy to find later.

   At Tantastic: Unused minutes expire 12 months from purchase.

7. 7. Is it a regular course or an offer?

   An offer can carry shorter terms than the regular price, so check which one you're buying. An old screenshot or social post won't tell you what's running today.

   At Tantastic: seasonal and promotional offers expire 3 months from purchase. Our offers page only shows offers while they're running.

8. 8. What if you change your mind?

   Find out before you pay whether you can get your money back for unused minutes, or pass them to someone else.

   At Tantastic: Courses are non-transferable and non-refundable once purchased.

9. 9. How will you check your balance?

   Ask how minutes are recorded and who you speak to if the balance looks wrong.
